Indonesia to Invite Russian Space
Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin's successful first flight into space Wednesday, April 12, 1961. Today, April 12, 2011, exactly 50 years has been the historic moment passed. To commemorate, Centre for Science and Culture of Russia held a photo exhibition and a seminar themed "50 Years Space Exploration Period: Yuri Gagarin and Indonesia."


In opening the seminar, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Alexander A. Ph.D Ivanov shared his memories about the figure of Yuri Gagarin. He said, when he was 9 years old when Yuri Gagarin flew. However, Ivanov admitted to remember clearly what happened at that time.
"After Yuri fly, people gathered in the street in Moscow, all smiling and laughing," he said.
According to Ivanov, the success of Gagarin was not happy just making the Russian public, but also the world. He also said that the success of Gagarin marks the rapid advancement of human civilization.
On that occasion, Ivanov also showed some photos posted in the Center for Science and Culture of Russia. One of the pictures shown are lined with photos of President Sukarno's Yuri Gagarin.
Soekarno met with Yuri Gagarin in June 1961, just 2 months after the first flight into space was. Sukarno also met with Sergei Korolyov, designer Vostok 1, the aircraft used by Gagarin.
Ivanov said the photo was marked near the Russian-Indonesian relations. Therefore, he hoped the Indonesian people also remember this day as the anniversary of Indonesia-Russia relationship closeness.
"In the early '60s, the Russian who was then the Soviet Union and Indonesia are making steps together to develop Indonesia as a newly independent country," said Ivanov. He hoped that cooperation between Russia and Indonesia continue, including in the field of space.
The same is also disclosed the Director Center for Science and Culture of Russia, Yuri N Zozulya. Zozulya said, "Personally, my personal dream, I want to send cosmonauts Indonesia to fly using our aircraft. It's like we do with other countries."


However, he said that he himself had no right to decide. "It all depends on the decisions at the government level," he said. He said the previous Russian cosmonaut has flown from Malaysia.


Indonesia-Russia cooperation in the field of space took place in various forms. One of them is a space rocket launch project plan from the island of Biak, Papua. Currently, the plan has not materialized because waiting Keantariksaan bill passed into law.
