On Other Planets, Plants Color Black

,

Black and gray are rarely found on plant vegetation on Earth. However, the color of plants on other planets may be dominated by black and gray. Wrana, for example could be a reddish color appeared on the planet.

Researcher Jack O'Malley-James of the University of St Andrews in Scotland currently working on research about the process of photosynthesis take place in plants with light colors influenced from the shine.

On Earth, most green plants to adapt to the Sun's light golden yellow, which is received at the surface of the planet. However, based on his research, on planets, stars by applying two different colors of the sun, plants can be gray and even black.

"In order to absorb more energy, and strengthen the process of photosynthesis," he explained.

This study also opens perspectives of the many combinations and variations on the star and the potential sustainability of life on planets orbiting.

Not only the elements that influence color. "For a planet orbiting two stars or more, harmful radiation from the intense light can make the plants create a kind of veil suryanya own, to block out ultraviolet rays," said O'Malley-James. (National Geographic Indonesia / Gloria Samantha)
