Twitter, Flickr, Bing Blocked In China

,
Since late Tuesday, Chinese Internet users have been experiencing blockages of popular websites like Twitter, Flickr and even Microsoft's new search engine Bing. The first instances of the blockages were reported on Twitter itself with "tweeters" complaining the blockage and slamming the Government's decision.

It is believed that the crackdown is to silence any social networking centered protests against the Tiananmen Square massacre, which happened two decades ago. June 4 in fact happens to be the 20th anniversary of the incident and the Chinese authorities seem all set to ensure most anti government news and articles are not accessible to majority of the Chinese populace.

The blockage gas also been extended to usually unblocked websites like WordPress, and Blogger. YouTube too has been blocked. But then, that has been targeted by them earlier as well. As for Twitter, the blockage seems to have affected those using the web version of the site. While famous applications like Tweet Deck and Twhirl too have been affected partially, some other applications seem to work fine.
