Apple sued over iCloud trademark

,
It wouldn't be the first time that Apple was sued for trademark infringement due to a newly launched product's name, so we're not exactly surprised that a company called iCloud Communications has filed suit over Apple's new cloud-based music and data synchronization service.

iCloud, the company, offers VoIP(INFO) products and services that, of course, make use of the same type of centralized servers that Apple's service does. From the complaint:

"The goods and services with which Apple intends to use the 'iCloud' mark are identical to or closely related to the goods and services that have been offered by iCloud Communications under the iCloud Marks since its formation in 2005. However, due to the worldwide media coverage given to and generated by Apple's announcement of its "iCloud" services and the ensuing saturation advertising campaign pursued by Apple, the media and the general public have quickly come to associate the mark "iCloud" with Apple, rather than iCloud Communications."

It's not an open and shut case this time around, though, since Apple has purchased the iCloud.com domain and U.S. trademark from a company out of Sweden named Xcerion, as PC Mag notes.

You can take a look at the full complaint over at The Next Web to see more specifics. We'll continue to follow the story as it unfolds.
